Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is Jurat?

The legal analysis and citations Jurat produces are extremely accurate. When inaccuracies do occur, it's typically because Jurat didn't locate a relevant case during its search, not because it fabricated or misrepresented one. For this reason, I always recommend conducting your own supplementary searches to confirm that no relevant authorities were missed.

What data is Jurat trained on?

Jurat is not a dedicated AI model trained on legal decisions. Instead, it uses multiple AI models to conduct live research across a variety of Canadian legal sources in real time, in a manner that complies with those sources' terms and conditions. This means Jurat is always working with current, up-to-date material rather than relying on a static training dataset.

How private is Jurat? Can I use it to research with solicitor-client privileged material?

Nobody can ever see the contents of your research queries, and I never use your data to train AI models. However, because your research queries are transmitted to third-party servers during the research process, I strongly recommend sanitizing your queries of any solicitor-client privileged material to protect your clients' privacy.

How much does Jurat cost?

Jurat uses simple, pay-as-you-go pricing — no subscriptions, no lock-in contracts. The cost of a query depends on its complexity, the level of detail required, and whether the research has to span both official languages (queries requiring bilingual research cost a bit more, since Jurat is reading and analysing decisions in both English and French). A straightforward, single-issue question might cost around $3, while the most complex, multi-issue research problems could run up to around $25. Most queries fall between the $3 and $10 range. You can see real examples with actual costs on the output examples page.

Why do you only sell to law firms?

Jurat is not a lawyer and cannot provide legal advice. As with any AI tool, it can make mistakes, and all of its outputs must be reviewed and approved by a trained legal professional before being relied upon. Because of this, Jurat is only available to law firms and legal professionals who are equipped to exercise that judgment.

I'm not a lawyer. Can I use Jurat to help me represent myself before a court?

Only trained legal professionals authorized to practice law in their province or territory can access and use Jurat.
